The black movement really misses King, IMO, for the reason you state. I recall a few years ago when Farakhan and Shabazz were on a rant there were calls for other black leaders to not really denounce them but maybe just hint that they might be a tad over the top. A couple of teeth were finally pulled, but the struggle was enormous.

I was thinking about this last week as I was reading Donna Britt's column. She genuflected conspicuously to all the correct totems and wriggled uncomfortably before she suggested that John McWhorter, a "sell-out" just might have a teeny-tiny point. My read was that her contortions were intended to make that point without losing credibility herself. I felt for her.
