Good IPR discussion by Michael Kinsley at Slate.com

John Ashcroft seems okay. I think he's the one who thinks that the USA, the world's most powerful economy, should take the lead in trade and not hide behind protectionist tariffs and import-restricting laws which are designed to give USA producers less competition at the expense of USA citizens.

I expect the absurd 'antitrust' case against Microsoft will be ditched. Especially since Judge Jackson's decision [and I expect Bill and Janet and Joel Klein] had quite a bit to do with a personal dislike of $ill rather than strict interpretation of law. There aren't many people who still think $ill Gates is about to rule the world with an evil monopoly. They now see that his domain is shrinking compared with what is coming along the Wireless Internet superhighway.

People blame interest rates for the Nasdaq crunch, but the attack on Microsoft had a bit to do with it too.

I could grow to like George Bush!

I suggest you look up Ashcroft's voting records, with special attention -but not limited to - the following areas.

* Social Security/Medicare (0% in 1997-1998)
* Women's rights
* Death penalty (>78%)
* Confirmation of minority appointees (the judicial branch in particular)

Re. than some tv-talking-head babble to base that opinion on?

This must be how you formed your opinions. I have no further comment.
