Just ran my portfolio against its highs last year. If I just got back to last year's highs, I would triple. Since it is pretty close to the G&K index, I think that would hold for it also.

That shows you how far we have fallen. It also shows that we don't have to do that much to really be back there.

Thanks for both your hard work re: trying to get SI to function more often with less frustration for us and re: Qualcomm - especially digging into the implications of the standards progressions and Qualcomm's chips and their use in the real world.

Few of us have devoted the time or have the skills to not only review what is happening in standards or on the ground as you have, but think about them, analyze and draw conclusions of a practical nature.

This leads up to a judgement question on which I would appreciate yours.

In the long run there seems little question that Qualcomm will have sufficient earnings to be highly successful as an investment.

Most here look to the long term. But this year is going to be a transition year in many ways.

It would seem that we may actually face a pause between the wireless voice tornado and the data tornado with the latter beginning to kick in late this year (at least not before the second half) and not gaining any traction until 2002, with major impact in 2003.

Your summary considered opinion on the timing and strength of the wireless data tornado would be very helpful (with caveats of course). Would you be willing to give us a clue of your current thinking, or is it too early for even an educated guess?

What thinkest thou?

Best as always.
