If you are talking about power generated in Illinois, distance is the problem. It takes energy to move electricity. Ie, if you use an appliance that has an 18 gauge wire but you want to use it with a 200' extension cord, that cord needs to be 14 gauge. Smaller the # the bigger the wire.

When one shuts down the others kick in more and more until they get overloaded.
