I doubt I want to be long come Jan 30th........ NEW YORK (Reuters) - The National Association of Purchasing Management Monday revised higher its December report for manufacturing activity to a reading of 44.3, from the previously reported 43.7. The revision was part of the annual adjustment of seasonal factors set by the U.S. Commerce Department, which the organization uses for its index. Minor adjustments were also made throughout all the components of the NAPM Index going back to 1997. The revised December number was still down sharply from the November reading, which was revised up slightly to 47.9 from an initial reading of 47.7. December was the fifth straight month that the NAPM index stayed below 50, which signals a contraction. But it held above the 42 level, which indicates a recession. December inventories were also revised up to 40.7, from the previously reported 39.8 and November's downwardly revised 42.1. The price index was also adjusted higher to 62.2, from the earlier 61.0 and November's upwardly adjusted 57.5. Export orders were revised down slightly to 49.5 from the originally reported reading of 49.9 and the upwardly revised November reading of 48.8. And imports were revised up to 51.9, from the initial 51.2 reading and November's slight upward revision to 53.3. Seasonal adjustment factors are used to allow for the effects of repetitive intra-year variations resulting largely from differences in weather conditions, institutional arrangements and holidays, NAPM said in a news release. cnnfn.cnn.com Also INTC announced they will buy XIRC in a bid to try and get into the wireless modem market. cnnfn.cnn.com 3Com is going to lay off some more people and "Hopes" to be profitable in the next 2 quarters. cnnfn.cnn.com Those repos in Boise were obviously not stock market related. They were all too scummy to even use as rentals. Of course if I was rich and wanted to do charity work, I guess I could have bought them and then taken a bulldozer to them to make the neighborhoods more attractive. <gggg> Good Luck, Lee
