fanatico de gigantico hombres y yanquis-

didn't you just win the world series this year? and now you're asking for the superbowl?

did you know that there are some of us who don't even have a pro team in their whole state? all i get is the occasional visit from holiday on ice or a monster truck competition.

don't get me wrong. i'm not complaining... i'm whining.

<grabs the key to the NNBM whine cellar and heads downstairs to spend the rest of the week.>

what a beautiful view we have down here. where's the tv?

Right on Polvster.

It's amazing how the networks have the ability to run any good thing into the ground. They drive off the true fans by trying to "reach out." I virtually never watch pro football due to the overhype...although I did have the games on in the background yesterday as I worked. Those were some awesome defenses out there....and Collins threw some amazing passes for someone that is supposedly terrible.

I have been sick for years about what the networks have done to the Olympics..........they love to show you everything but the events themselves....

Less TV and concentrate on the things that really matter is always the answer...Scott

Anyone have a few favorite players?

As a kid I was fond of nicknames. Hence I liked "crazy legs" and from my first TV (black and white) NFL game, Lou "the toe". [Only old timers will have any idea who I'm talking about.]

My favourite was McMahon of the Bears, back in
the Mike Ditka days, but only because he was so
irreverant. Whatever happened to him anyway?

I think I got hooked on football watching the 58 title game between the Giants and the Baltimore Colts. They were tied 17-17 and went into overtime. Unitas,my vote for best QB) took the Colts 80 yards on THE DRIVE. Ameche scored from the goal line about 8 minutes into the game. I can not remember the QB of the Giants. Pat Summerall played for the giants. Tough guys,I remember watching Y.A Tittle and him standing on the side lines and he took his helmet off and the blood was just running down his face. No one paid any attention. Butkus was about the meanest middle linebacker, there might be better players like Taylor at linebacker, no one was meaner. Nitkse of the Packer years was pretty good.
I got to see Hugh Mcelhenny in 61 an exhibition game 49s vs. the vikings at Husky Stadium. Mcelhenny had graduated from the UDub and was winding down his carrier so it was like the last game for "The King". The 49s started a drive and Mcelhenny got the ball about seven times in a row. Some of those runs he must of run 60 to gain ten. Starting and stopping ,stiff-arming ,cutting back. The crowd was going nuts. He ran a lot like Payton.
I loved those early Packers, the Ice bowl in 67 was pretty good.
I like the Snake, Stabler.
I remember Broadway Joe. My dad couldn't stand him because of his mouth, haircut and his fur coat. I thought he was great. maybe the start of my rebellious years.
Stop me I am talking and cannot stop.

Now you have me going, Clap. Even mentioned my man Hacksaw. Besides Joe and the 2 minute drill (I remember 2 games against the Bengals where he really did it... the SuperBowl pass to John Taylor, , and one game where the Niners trailed with like 15 seconds left, and he hit Rice for the TD), there is Deacon Jones, Rosey Grier, (What the hell, make it the whole fearsome foursome), the Purple People Eaters, Craig Morton to Bob Hayes, Ben Davidson and Lyle Alzedo and the rest of the old raiders. Bradshaw was really great. Johnny U used to kill us. And, ex-Lion Wayne Walker, who came to SF and became the color guy on the broadcasts. Oh, yeah, the Pack under Lombardi.

Clappy...the Hacksaw story...

What does any of this have to do with finance? Well, there is the superbowl winner theory, but that got shot lto hell last year. However, if anybody likes the theory, both teams are from the old NFL, so the market should go up.

Anyway,. Clappy, Hacksaw came to the Niners from the Rams; an aging, cagey vet with a lot of all-pro seasons behind him. They brought him in to lead the D, and to teach a bunch of rookies about the pros. Eventually, his lessons were passed on to new guys thru the his students, guys like Lott.
I loved Hack; a real character, who spent most of his free tilme in the film room. Got his name back in college; his school had a shot at a bowl game and blew it, so Hack went to the hardware store, got a bunch of blades, and proceeded to cut in half a car which was a campus landmark.
The 2 things I remember most fondly about him...Superbowl '81 (or '82 for the '81 season, start of 2nd half... Hack getting excited, had to pee. What to do? Called the D into a huddle on the sidelines, and dropped trow. Bit later, Cincy had 1st and goal on the 3; Hack saying "I don't know if we can stop them, but let's all go crazy and see what happens". They did, they held in what may be the best goal line stand in the Superbowl, and won the game right there.
I wear his jersey, but, being older and slower, have "Chainsaw" as the name.

The old kid down the road
