I guess it would be East Germany or Poland, if I am not wrong.

Wrong!!... Don't you remember the German students tearing down the Berlin Wall? What about "Solidarity" in Poland?

Yes, those two "revolutions" were relatively peaceful, but the leaders did not go voluntarily. They went because they were at risk of losing their lives and because their Soviet patrons were having their own problems.

But again I want to state that China's leaders are correct in assessing one threat. That threat is treating people like they have actual rights. Because once freedom is established, it is only taken away by causing great resentment.

And that is the risk China's leaders are running with the Falun Gong movement. After all, spirituality is supposed to be a personal matter, not something for the government to dictate.

Personallly, I don't like Scientology, but if a bunch of Americans want to read Dianetics and treat L. Ron Hubbard and John Travolta as spiritual leaders, that's alright with me... Just so long as they don't infringe on my individual rights, or violate the law by crossing the line between non-profit religion and a for-profit business.

educate the ignorant peasants (I mean ignorant in politics) to be good farmers and feed the nation

Let the poor farmers own their land and results will follow. These people know how to farm. In fact, they have centuries of history to support that. It is only when the government collectivized the arable land and removed the profit motive that mass starvation takes place.

In that, he says you have to be paranoid in order to survive

Oh give me a break here Q!!! China can raise AN ARMY EQUAL TO THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES.

Now tell me who should be paranoid?

The people of China have more to fear from a governmental leadership that has absolute control over them through the mechanisms of fear and retribution. Become a Falun Gong member and the governmental underlings will have you tortured and killed. Become a christian and the government will burn your church.

But if you practice the religious of Maoist socialism, you're just fine and can receive your just reward.

So you think China would expand like the British empire??

Hmmm.... no one thought that the Japanese would go on an expansionist binge either. But, I guess we can ask the Tibetans about Chinese ambitions, don't ya think?

And btw, the British Empire is CONSIDERABLY smaller than it was before WWII. And that was mainly due to US pressure upon them to decolonize and grant independence to their subjects.

So with a record like that, why does China have anything to fear from the US, or even Britain?

Governmental propaganda about all of the perceived threats from abroad are merely convenient excuses aimed at justifying their repression of the Chinese people.

Ron
