Lineo on Friday withdrew its plans for an initial public offering, a sign that investor pessimism has swept into a previously optimistic part of the Linux landscape.

This is good news for the economy at large, and in my opinion has little to do with Lineo or Linux. The IPO market is so weak now that companies finally have to concentrate on earning profits and developing strong businesses, rather than just cashing in on an IPO and going on to the next startup.

The important thing for the Linux community is that, IPO or no, Lineo is still on track to build and market embedded Linux and set-top Linux products.
