>MMM Issues 4th-Quarter Warning, Citing Sales Slump, Currency Effects

Yet more company specific news. The adhesives and synthetic fiber industry is just fine. Who cares about a little rummy company like 3M?

Haven't you got it through your heads yet? EVERYTHING IS COMPANY SPECIFIC. There are no macro-economic forces at work here. Everything is fine.

Greenspan is going to save us by cutting rates because the economy is slowing too fast.

But when I say the economy is slowing too fast, I don't mean the actual COMPANIES that make up the economy. All those companies are doing great, except for the ones that aren't. In any case, it's just another reason to BUY CALLS.

GE will turn out the lights next quarter -- how they have kept EPS so finely tuned this late in the game is beyond me, but next quarter will be fess up time -- a industrial conglomerate and a bank -- what worse biz's could you be in heading into a recession ...

what I don't understand is strength in the financials -- have they become so strong that they must be the last shares to crumble? I'll admit to being wrong -- I would have thought they'd all have crumbled first before some of the techs admitted biz was bad ...
