In an effort not to be a flash in the pan I have been backfilling my knowledge base by reading some books, like The Gorilla game, The art of War, Parts of The innovators dilemma, Latticework (Book Description When it comes to developing investment savvy and understanding today's complex market, you cannot rely solely on business magazines and financial papers. Some of today's legendary investors are not just drilling deeper into the principles of finance, but are looking beyond the basic lessons for their new insights. They have other sources that lead them to some unexpected market wisdom, like Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, William James, Mortimer Adler, Doyne Farmer, Brian Arthur, and Per Bak....) . I never knew who Charlie Munger is... Warren Buffett may be the household name, but Berkshire Hathaway Director and Vice Chairman Charles Munger is considered by many to be "the brains behind Warren Buffett." One of the investment world's most private figures, Munger is the man Buffett credits with teaching him the value of great franchises and the virtues of qualitative analysis. In his own quiet way, he has helped expand Berkshire's value (and his own personal fortune) to mammoth proportions. In fact, Berkshire Hathaway's stature as a model investment firm owes much to Munger's staunch advocacy of ethical business practices, his brutal honesty, and his fame for "cutting through the bull." Now, for the first time, Damn Right! Behind the Scenes with Berkshire Hathaway Billionaire Charlie Munger lets the public discover the tactics and techniques, the business philosophy and humor of this highly influential, yet little known, financial wizard. A couple quotes from Charlie ..... "You've got to have models in your head," and you've got to array your experience-both vicarious and direct-on this latticework of models" Individually each one of us would not have Charlie's "worldly wisdom" in large enough measure to be sucessful over the long haul because of the narrow expertise that our culture requires. SI is a kind of neural network, each poster is one node on the network. Collectively we might make it over the bar the Charlie Munger sets. The more people who make contributions the more likely we are to make it. I'm not asking for the Yahoo type noise that fills the regular threads there( the club is cool though), We need to be more than informed, but enlightened. Please participate. Thanks in advance. PS The book latticework made me aware of this think tank, The Sante Fe institute, where some pretty smart people of various disciplines talk about some heavy stuff and work on models. There is a web site for this think tank.....santafe.edu Some interesting reading while we watch from the seats that are getting more comfortable more of the time, but are still hard to sit in for hopefully shorter periods of time. Now back to the thread subject matter....
