>>In 1982 fellow Illinois Republican Rep. Dan Crane was accused of having an affair with his 17 year old page. Crane confessed
and it seemed he was going to be kicked out of the House until Hyde came to his rescue:

Wrong. The GOP voters sent Crane packing. A Dem in a Dem district would be safe, because Dems rightfully expect the worst of their leaders and so they are rarely disappointed.

I remember the Crane incident well because at the same time my congressman, Gerry Studs, had been sleeping with his 15 year old male page. (Do I have to even mention that Studs was a dem?)

As I recall, Crane resigned from congress while Studs stayed and was never prosecuted for statutory rape or misuse of public funds (for taking his love child on a romantic trip to Paris at taxpayer expense).

Crane's affair was not a criminal violation, while Studs's was, yet he was never prosecuted because democrats controlled congress and the MA DA's office.

Mr. Palau - Double wrong. It was not Dan Crane, it was his brother. The party sent him packing. Henry Hyde protected no one. You are making it up again.
