do the NK fans ever been to Korea...? How many Christians have ever been to heaven? They don't have to go. They know. National consciousness has yet to seep into much of the Philippines, where primary loyalty is still to clans and ethno-linguistic groupings. The rightists are purely feudal, and view the middle class as a threat. They probably know that an expanded middle class would be a huge boost to the economy, but they also know that the middle class will try to promote quaint concepts like the rule of law, from which the rich have been traditionally completely (and I do mean completely) exempt. Without that exemption their powers would fade and they would be no different than anybody else; they would rather rule a collapsing feudal state than be equal in a modern society. Naturally, neither right nor left could exist without its counterpart. Off the top of my head, population 75 million, mostly Catholic, Church is a major political influence. Population growth rate maybe 2.5%. 50% of population under age 15. Trouble coming, for sure.
