Dan, <Just a month before Intel introduced the 440LX AGPset, the boys at Micron cooked up their first motherboard chipset silicon, which they call the Samurai>

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Intel had the 440FX chipset long before 440LX. If I remember correctly, 440FX (or at least one version of it) was capable of 2-way SMP with Pentium Pro and Pentium II.

Besides, if Micron's chipset came out only a month before 440LX, how in the world could Intel "copy" that chipset in only a month's time? Even that would take some amazing engineering.

<If Intel hadn't stomped on this technologically innovative chipset, we'd probably have many 64 bit PCI cards available today and we'd be getting better overall performance from our machines.>

Not so. 64-bit PCI cards are noticeably more expensive to manufacture than 32-bit cards, not to mention motherboards that supported them. And 66 MHz PCI is limited to only two PCI slots.

66/64 PCI is only useful for servers and high-end workstations. It's overkill for the desktop.

Complete Fool Dan - Re: "Just a month before Intel introduced the 440LX AGPset, the boys at Micron cooked up their first motherboard chipset silicon, ..The fact of the matter was that Micron's chipset noticeably underperformed Intel's later released chipset "

You are claiming that Intel - in a period of only one month - copied Micron's chip set - designed their own version of it - taped it out - manufactured it in their fabs - tested it - packaged it - re-tested it - put in on Motherboards - after designing the motherboards - verified full SMP operation and stability - and shipped it to OEM's who put it in their systems - and the end result was BETTER than Micron's ?

And Intel did ALL THIS in the space of One Month?

You have confirmed for once and for all that - in addition to being a BLOW HARD - you are a COMPLETE FOOL and an idiot as well.
