MacRandy: Asia DRAM Report: PC Downturn Spurs Deep Capex Cuts

I don't think the current pricing of DRAMs is helping either. This seems to happen every once in a while - almost like in the hard drive business (although at least DRAM makers make money sometimes). Some of the smaller companies call it quits, others restructure, and the cycle starts over.

The good that comes from this is that DRAM makers will be more encouraged to diversify their products. Right now, that means making DDR SDRAM, DRDRAM and low latency variants of SDR and DDR SDRAM. This in turn will make standard memory (100-133MHz SDR SDRAM) more expensive, which will speed the transition to the greater bandwidth memory.

The only real danger is that any increase in pc100/133 before PC sales pick up again could hurt PC sales...

All,
Looked through the Circuit City and Office Depot sale flyers today. Not a single AMD containing computer in either. All but one was for <1 GHz Intel chips. So which is it? Lots of low end (<1 GHz) Intel junk inventory to get rid of or is Intel partnering with lots of advertising space?
