I agree with you that the post, like any written bit out there in wwww, simply posts an opinion. I expressed this very well in my message with "Bye?". Your arguments are valid, though one must question not only the financial viability (along with the need to take over costs for that service to the public), but also what the sum of the posters really expects from a chat site/bulletin board, eg which type of content should be provided.

I'm on record here long ago saying corporate sponsorships are the only untapped viable revenue stream (assuming boards such as this are not designed to be loss leaders for financial portals). For example, why not see if companies might bite at sponsoring a thread about them their IR department could moderate. I mean, rather than answer the same questions over and over again, why not just post those answers on a place like SI? With the new SEC rules on full disclosure, a place like SI would be perfect for clarifying analyst questions in a fully public way. Such boards would supplement, not replace, their free-wheeling counterparts. In fact, I'd bet they'd spur even more conversation.

Just a thought.
