All big telecoms vendors are exactly like that: ERICY, NT, Siemens, LU, ALA all of them coming form a world where telecoms operators' monopolies roamed the earth. Those habits die very hard.

"Now Lucent must deal with that trouble. On Wednesday, it expects to
announce a loss for the most recent quarter on revenue about 20 percent
lower than in the year-earlier period. While the number of layoffs is
unclear, a restructuring charge will probably come to hundreds of millions
of dollars, at least."

I guess that Wednesday mentioned means this coming Wednesday? Uh?

Lucent is providing a live audio webcast of its 1Q01 earnings on Wednesday, January 24th at 9:00 am EST. At that time you may listen to the conference call "live" by clicking on either the Real Audio or Windows Media player button.

QUESTION: What happens to stock price?...on Tuesday?...on Wednesday?...or even tomorrow?...can stock take another negative report even though everyone knows it is coming. Talking finance heads on the telly will say that all this is already factored into the price of the stock....is that a given?

Is the last few days of a run-up just one of those preparations by the market to sell on the news!...either before the news is announced or just right after.

Is the fact that the whole communications sector has seen upward movement recently just benefiting LUCENT and smart money is in there taking advantage of that small pop to make some money on this company?

Anyone have some smart answers?
