Hits & misses: Houston takes first women's Super Bowl

The NFL is helping with the growth of women's football, however. Over 1.5 million girls ages 8 to 15 participated in punt-pass-and-kick competition last season and 250,000 play flag football through the NFL.

A voluntary survey by the National Federation of State High School Association reported that 658 girls play on high-school football teams. Yet, there's a gap between Pop Warner and the professional ranks. And the trend among young women is wrestling, not football.

"Anything that gives women the opportunity to play is great," said Donna Lopiano, executive director of the Women's Sports Foundation. "It's furthering the women's-rights movement and proving that women and little girls can do anything."

Even play football.

if the Republicans choose to take a more extreme mode in their way of government, will in my eyes, deliver the next election to the Democrats.

The Dems will have to decide whether their best political interests lie in working with the Reps on the people's business or accentuating the differences. They'll probably do a little of both since they're essentially leaderless. I expect that whatever the Dems do will be less important than what the Reps do. The next election is theirs to lose. IMO they'd be best served by keeping their closet-cases in the closet.

Bush's 3 chances: taxes, Medicare, Social Security

There are opportunities to make points in taxes and Medicare, but Social Security, IMO, is a quagmire. If Bush doesn't watch out, SS will be his equivalent of Clinton's ill-fated health care reform.

I wish Bush would tackle the war on drugs. Just like only Nixon could go to China, only a Rep can challenge the effectiveness of the war on drugs.
