Now I understand there is something within me that acts when I don't have to think about it.</i.> That's the whole point! Even though you are driving and your mind is elsewhere, in the past you have created your own way of driving that you have complete confidence in. You have created a synapse path for your nerve impulses that will perform the necessary physical actions to avoid potholes navigate curves etc.,etc. Notice I did not say you are driving safe and correctly.
