...but Edison refused to build a connection to the wind farm...

My apologies for extending an off topic here. But this local paper has just printed a lie. Those wind farms in Tehachapi have been connected to the Edison grid since their beginning in the early 80's. I know, I've spent too much time there. If you'd like to see my take on EIX, go to a new public board on EIX that was listed this weekend on the front page.
My eternal thanks to you all for this thread. I'm learning alot about storage. My biggest holding. I believe in the explosion in the market here.

Joe,

Right on. BOD of a public power utility where I reside are getting 6 figure plus bonuses right now for their "Improved Execution". What is that? Selling power to California at usurious rates, and then lining their pockets with the delusion that they are "really performing above and beyond the call of duty."

Drop the ceo a line here, tell him what you think.

PS: They do have a couple of token wind generators located out there somewhere...PR effect. The old 60s slogan...Power to the People...must take on a new meaning.

You know at first I had the same opinion, but then I started to do some research into wind power. You have to realize that the spike in electricity prices in California is just that and the initial expense on wind generators is quite high. At the moment electricity prices would make wind competitive, but how long are these prices going to last. I have been told there is no shortage of natural gas in this country and I think the problem is that California is dealing with the difficulty of diving into a free market instead of easing in, like Russia is having. Eventually supply and demand will line up (if natural gas is not a problem) and the owner of all those new wind generators will be looking at electricity prices that are no longer profitable. There is new technology (transverse flux generator) that may change the game though.
