I personally know 5 people who died from a heroin overdose (tough neighborhood) but not one who died from alcohol abuse, though it does happen

Nite-Man, I suppose it depends on how one defines "abuse". According to MADD stats, in 1999 alone, 15,786 people in the USA lost their lives in alcohol related traffic accidents. That...IMO...is abuse.
