My guess is $55/MWH is the maximum price utility companies are willing to buy. Otherwise they have to increase the selling price, or suffer a loss. Davis is very clear if the energy bill increases, CA will be in recession. Most tech companies will move their facilities out-of-state. The $400 million - $1 billion spending bill passed last week will buy 12 days for the state. Let's see if he can pull of anything within two weeks.

I'm sure he can't anywhere near that price except in shoulder months ... have you looked at forward prices?

I think it would be prudent for them to buy some forward at this point for the summer ... of course, everyone knows their situation and the prices will be jacked. Ideally they would look at both NG futures and forward electricity prices in combination ...
