hi mag

the office chair not reclining may be the worst of your probs. <g>

but, moving along to the case at hand....

if a tap on the box fixes the display prob, perhaps reseating the vid card would be called for? just a wag, mag. <g>

if you are getting messages saying your <cd-rom drive letter>:\is not accessible, i would be leaning towards replacing it, depending upon age of unit. if it's like 3 yrs or more, replace. if less, maybe it's a simple matter of making sure that the drive letters assigned to it match in the properties settings dialog accessible via device manager. i think they are called start and end drive letters. if your cd-rom drive is e:\drive, then put e in each box. it may require reboot. i have had this work, as well as unplugging the ribbon cable from the mobo and reinserting it, but the probs were merely symptomatic of a drive going bad. i swapped it out for a new 50x delta drive that cost me $20 at staples. i'm happy.

the network neighborhood situation i'm going to have to think about some more. maybe some other suggestions will roll in for you on that.

more later. keep us posted. hope this helps

:)

mark

Mag ...

came upstairs to the office area to watch the Stars play the Vancover Canuks and saw your dilemma(s)

mark has what I would suggest on the video .... pull out and reseat the card ..... should it be "on board", and IF you have a spare .... stick a card in a PCI slot .. the MBrd will over reach the AGP and see the PCI as primary ... you might try that ...

on the CD ..and "possibly" the NeighborhoodNetwork
pull up the System Properties screen ....

Start-Control Panel-System-Device Manager
then look and see if there are any Xs though any of the devices listed ...
check them out from there ....

no need for me to go into how to do that right now as you might not have that problem and the hockey game is getting ready to start and I"ll have to do it myself to give you the correct steps ...
I'll be standing by during intermission/delays ..... ggggg

Nemer

edit ...
30 seconds into the game and the Stars already have a 4 min power play ...

Go Stars ....

re edit ...

Star 1
Canuks 0
had to go into the second 2 minutes but Modano did score

I gave my wife a high back leather LazeBoy (sp doesn't look right...ggg) for her downstairs office and I'm sitting in a high back cloth LazeBoy in the upstairs one , where I also have a low back LazeBoy ...

I can recco them,
but
FIRST
flip yours over and take a look and see if any of the big screw setting are wrong ....

I have one of these and they are very comfortable

levenger.com

Aeron Chair
When we first laid eyes on the Aeron Chair we were taken aback. “How strange! Didn’t they leave something out—like the upholstery? How can that be comfortable?” The fact is, it’s probably the most comfortable task chair ever made.

This is Herman Miller’s latest and greatest task chair. Designers Don Chadwick and Bill Stumpf spent years working out all the particulars in true Miller “let’s-take-off-the-blinders-and challenge-everything-we-think-we-know-about-chairs” fashion. Thank goodness they did! That is, after all, how breakthroughs are made.

Why use this see-through, high-tech stretch fabric? First, all upholstery gets warm and traps moisture after a time; the Aeron won’t. Second, it supports you more evenly and more comfortably. (Rumor is that Mercedes-Benz is making new car seats of the same material.)

The fancy tilt mechanism of the Aeron Chair lets the chair pivot at your ankles, knees, and hips in a coordinated fashion. Its design and function just blow other chairs away. And it has all the right ergonomic adjustments while being easy to use.

The arms are sensational. They move up and down and rotate in and out (which is great when using a mouse). But, best of all, they’re so wide and cushy, you’ll feel like you’re finally flying first class after years of riding coach.

The Aeron Chair isn’t cheap. But how much time do you spend in your chair—probably more than you spend in your car—and what did you pay for that? We encourage you to try Aeron for as long as you like with our risk-free guarantee. We think you’ll be won over just as we were.

Most people will want the standard Aeron Chair, but if you’re shorter than 5'2" and weigh less than 130 pounds, you’ll probably be more comfortable in the small Aeron. If you’re taller than 6'2" and weigh more than 250 pounds, you’ll probably prefer the large Aeron. (All the chairs look basically the same, with only minor differences in scale.)

We think your guests will appreciate Aeron too, so we’re introducing the Aeron Side Chair. Developed so that office guests can experience Aeron comfort, the side chair has an adjustable lumbar support. It measures 22 ½” by 25" by 36 ¾” tall. Both chairs are made in America.

Vid card... I should have noted I have moved this card from one PCI slot to another with no positive result. I believe my problem is in the monitor. It's getting up there in years.

The CD rom is not showing up in device manager. The computer is not recognizing it at all. I think I will take mr. marks suggestion and go for a new one. I looked at tc's site and the amount of information was overwhelming to me. Besides... for 20 bucks I get to tear into my machine!
