It is a very interesting country. But it has a long history of assimilating new ideas and goods and languages- and it has been much more cosmopolitan in many ways than other countries. The dutch don't have the sense of overweening pride the French have- nor do they have an obsessive desire to keep their culture "pure", they don't have the suspicion of foreign ways that the British had for so long, and they aren't a thing like the Germans. There was a very good book I've recommended before called "The Embarrassment of Riches" about the Dutch. The Dutch are a fascinating people.
