Scumbria: My impression was more that the prevalent American attitude was "dont get in the way of letting me make money" Who cares if the environment will get irreparably damaged or we cause a native band to lose their way of life or cause extinction of a species.. its our God-given right to make MONEY! And we're going to make it no matter what the cost, dang it! And if a government enacts environmental protection regulations or decides an area needs to be protected .. then the hue and cry of big brother, communism and destruction of property rights go sky high on the decibel metre. And no.. I'm no socialist. (EDIT: and I do say some of that above a bit tongue in cheek...) but you have to balance between making a profit and taking care of the world you live in.. and this Arctic drilling proposal IMHO, doesnt take that into account.
