hi bob

wow, you've covered a lot of bases there, man. seems like everything is turned off, which is what i was going to recommend to you.

are you running any sort of antivirus software? because that, (along with screensavers, from what i hear) is the chief culprit to look for when defrags won't complete.

so, got antivirus?

:)

ScanDisk...

Windows comes with two ScanDisks: A Windows version and a DOS version. The executable for Windows is SCANDSKW.EXE while for DOS it's SCANDISK.EXE.

Boot to DOS and run the DOS version. At the DOS prompt, type

C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\SCANDISK

Typing Scandisk while Windows is running seems to execute the Windows version, which you don't want. Since DOS doesn't support multiple programs running, you can be sure Scandisk will receive no interference.

Cheers, PW.
