I don't think of choosing to speak without mixing it with cuss words is being a prude. Using them a lot merely shows a lack of imagination when choosing adjectives. Or it's laziness. On occasion the most decent of speaking people will cuss a blue streak out of irritation. There can be a sense of relief from it. As to being crude in subject matter, I don't think it is the subject matter, but rather the treatment of it. One can talk of sex, or other touchy subjects (no pun intended) in a funny, enjoyable, bawdy, and open way and be anything but crude. Or one can be crude and crass while speaking of those things. It's attitude, not subject. I think it appropriate to change one's manner in front of business associates, aquaintances, strangers who will as such, and the like. To change one's manner in your morning greetings with someone you have thoughts of getting to know better is ultimately deceptive, unless you the way you present yourself is a way that you like to become.
