re When AMD is disappointed by a technology, they move on to a better one. It's a concept that seems to elude Intel.

and hence on the basis of this AMD has been able to capture the lion share of the x86 server market that they now dominate (2 way to 8 way) thus relegating intel to the role of a second tier supplier

Blow Hard Dan - Re: "I'll grant you that EV6 has been a disappointment, now you tell my why Intel is still clinging to Merced and Rambus."

RAMBUS - Intel isn't clinging - they have PC133 SDRAM chip sets - the i815 - that work even better than the RAMBUS/i820 - and it works SUPERBLY - as this message is being typed on one (that hasn't crashed in the 55 days since I installed it !!)

The Pentium 4 Brookdale (SDRAM) chip set seems to be progressing FASTER than anybody expected it - with reports - you've read them - that the chip is ALREADY sampling in Taiwan.

MERCED - The Merced/IA 64 project is progressing - but at a slower pace than anybody would like - but it IS PROGRESSING !

MERCED FPU - at 667 MHz is 80% FASTER than a 1 GHz AthWIPER - that should make you shake your dress, Monica !

Just let us know when the AMD Numa-Hamsters start shipping "in volume" !!!!

By the way - think of this, Monica - AMD has essentially announced that the EV6 is DEAD MEAT.

Juts what kind of customers do you expect to invest TIME MONEY AND EFFORT into deploying the SOON-TO-BE_DEAD EV6-760MP DUAL SERVERS ?

My prediction - AMD will announce within a few months that their "customers" have requested that AMD devote ALL their efforts to the NUMA-HAMSTER and AMD will henceforth DROP the 760MP.

You heard it HERE first !
