Re: "My prediction - AMD will announce within a few months that their "customers" have requested that AMD devote ALL their efforts to the NUMA-HAMSTER and AMD will henceforth DROP the 760MP"

I agree with your analysis. With failure after failure in attempting SMP, AMD is finally coming to grips with the realization that the EV6 bus is a total disaster and they are throwing in the towel. So todate, AMD has a long history of failure and zero (successful)experience in debugging SMP architectures, and they expect to convince customers that they will have a totally new SMP architecture ready for Sludgepumper running on an unavailable 64bit operating system? Now that's what I call an uphill battle! I remain somewhat skeptical while I type this on my dual processor Celeron system, and I remind our AMDite friends that Intel has never shipped a P6 generation chipset die that wasn't SMP capable.

Re: Intel isn't clinging - they have PC133 SDRAM chip sets - the i815

... a year late copy of a VIA chipset.

The Pentium 4 Brookdale (SDRAM) chip set seems to be progressing FASTER...

That chipset should have been released last month - as it stands, P4 is floundering because it has no decent chipset.

MERCED - The Merced/IA 64 project is progressing - but at a slower pace than anybody would like -

Don't be ridiculous, the list of people who are delighted with the rate of Merced progress goes on and on. Jerry Sanders and Scott McNealy are prime examples. By the way, which do you think will be first on the market, IA-64 or X86-64?

MERCED FPU - at 667 MHz is 80% FASTER than a ...

Speeding 486 - Next challenge: Pentium 100!

Just let us know when the AMD Numa-Hamsters start shipping "in volume" !!!!

That's a really interesting point you've brought up. NUMA isn't needed unless you're building systems with more than 8 CPUs. It may be that AMD will beat Intel at providing an SHV high end server.

Juts what kind of customers do you expect to invest TIME MONEY AND EFFORT into deploying the SOON-TO-BE_DEAD EV6-760MP DUAL SERVERS ?

If Intel can place 50,000 of its pathetic performing and soon to be replaced by McKinley, Itanic boat anchors, AMD will move 10 times as many dual CPU Palaminos.

OTOH, 900MHz AMD notebooks from AMD in 2 months? - I'll believe it when I see it.
