<in the information economy, negative feedback loops seem to develop much faster than before. >

That's part of the thrust of "The coming internet depression", FWIW

talk about unprecedented speed -- my buddy was telling me about the layoffs at Tyco -- folks got a voice mail in the morning telling them to report to their managers -- they were given two boxes, told to turn in their badge and be out by 10:00 AM!!

That's 750 people probably not counted in the LU layoffs ...

If you recall, a few months ago I was arguing about this with a few thread members. They were taking the side that "it's different this time" and I was saying there will be TL & EV for tech workers as I was seeing the first signs of it at IBM back then. I think it will get much worse.

i think it's rather worrisome that these job cuts happen at an unprecedented speed...in the information economy, negative feedback loops seem to develop much faster than before.

The question may be whether the feedback loop is positive or negative, and the difference is often the time delay and phase of the impact. A negative feedback loop is regulatory or correcting. A positive feedback loop is regenerative and oscillatory. Every attempt to control (or react to) the economy has an unknown and changing time delay which means that its result is often the opposite of what is intended.
