I hadn't ever heard that before, and it doesn't sound right considering the RBOC/IXCs as a whole spend a heck of a lot more on routers and networking gear than the CLECs.

I haven't followed Cisco over the past 6 mos as closely as I once did, but I know for a long period of time they were trying to break into the corecarrier market and failed on two key tries: Telia in Sweden and GTE (now Verizon) in the US. While they are attempting to stitch together their routers to do a man's job, they are losing out to JNPR and the privately held Unisphere Solutions.

Granted Cisco has done a fantastic job in the first wave of networking solutions leading up to the current highspeed bandwidth Tsunami. The question remains if they can switch gears and be competitive with the smarter, more intelligent systems being deployed by major carriers.

And I could be wrong and certainly welcome an update on their solutions for the core of the network.

Thanks in advance.
