Paul,
What are you crazy? Jints will win easily and the markets will rise. You can take it to the bank. Mike

Paul

I was looking at some statistics in IBD the other day about margin. It has dropped below 1% of all stock being held which is a tremendous drop from this summer. When I've seen margin drop this low in the past it has signaled to me that we don't have to worry about margin calls modulating the markets. The numbers are just too small to have a negative shock effect.

Back in 1929 the margin ratios were much, much higher and because you could buy $1 of stock for ten cents the magnitude of the effect was probably 20 to 30 times greater than what happened since last March.

So in my book margin is a dead issue. The speculation has been effectively taken out of the markets here. The numbers just don't add up to create a margin meltdown.
