It's sort of like Original Sin: you may end up damned, not for anything you actually did, but simply for being who you are.

Thank you for getting that observation off your chest because it gets it off mine, too. I would add only one thing. The Original Sin seems a adhere because of where you post, which triggers assumptions are made about who you are. That moves us yet another step further from meaningful dialogue.

I don't understand why general comments such as those are objectionable on a thread reserved exclusively for people of like mind. It is how people of one extreme or the other often refer to the opposite extreme in private conversation. Those threads are the SI equivalent of a clubhouse (and I do not qualify for membership).

I prefer genuine free speech. I have lived in countries where self-censorship did more harm than the censors themselves. I think you have, too.
