Hi Stock Operator; All things of this world are temporary, (ala KIS), but South Africa is unique among subsaharan Africa in having started out with a decent amount of industrialization, and a political system not incompatible with development.

I have hopes for them. For us... ???

SO, i don't think so...one can't rule it out completely, but having lived there i must say i'm not as pessimistic about SA.
the SA government is astonishingly pragmatic and follows a relatively conservative fiscal and economic policy. the CB is independent and has reasonable inflation fighting credentials.
i think the big difference between SA and other African nations is that the latter became independent when the communist bloc was still intact, whereas by the time the democratic government began to rule in SA in '94, communist policies were already roundly discredited.
