Hi Frank,

I thought this article would be of note. It's the first time I've seen @Home admit the network can't handle the way people are using it.

nationalpost.com

Part of the problem with the @Home service, according to Dermott O'Carroll, Rogers vice-president of network operations, is that the @Home service is being used in ways no one expected. Because the service has been promoted as "always on," customers use it that way-- having their computers do automated searches for e-mail or leaving them connected to Napster.

Cogeco is also going it alone.

Shaw isn't alone. Cogeco, which has around 77,000 customers using its high-speed Internet service, was faced with significant problems last February. The company immediately began taking control of the service, according to CEO Louis Audet, and is now preparing for its independence from the service.

"Our contract expires in March, 2003, but we'll likely be entirely independent before that," he said.

It will be interesting to see how they plan to be independent.

Regards
Jay
