i just wanted to make sure you had read your way in, so to speak.

you make a good point about retracing. and on top of that, sometimes a fresh approach to a previously attempted solution can be successful. by no means did i mean to discourage you.

i have an appointment this a.m. and can't remain. otherwise i might continue. i will add that even getting carolyn's speaker icon back in the systray may not solve her 'no sound' prob. i have not heard from her, for example, if she has confirmed that all cables are plugged in properly. a couple of times on this thread, we have encountered instances of unplugged connections.

i think the missing icon is a result of a registry edit.
