Are taxes high in Texas? Texas is considered a low tax state. No income tax, all money is raised by property tax and sales tax (plus gas tax and some misc. taxes). Of course low tax means low state programs. There are virtually no state parks. Teachers and other public workers are among the lowest paid (and least qualified) in the nation. It's pretty much libertarian - fend for yourself - kind of state. That's why I said it's nice here if you have money and a bitch if you're poor. TP
