Even the perception of an uptick might be enough to cause an uptick...

Wrt Compaq, it is certainly the top-10 OEM with the, imho, strongest, most complete business plan. They have good, solid (and enormously popular) "gadgets" like the iPaq, they have a strong grip on out-of-the-box services and they provide the most complete range of product, from iPaqs to Alpha servers. As a company, they've been pretty stagnant for the last couple of years, but 2001 could be the first year bucking that trend. (of course, halving your stock price in the last couple of months of the previous year is one way of making the next look better).
