mr mark, no new nav updates, but for the first time a small window 'confirming subscription status' popped up. I suppose they're setting up to charge $ for updates after year one.

mark,

I think you may be on to something here:
More likely your kernell32 file is corrupt.

Today when I shut down I received "this program has performed an illegal error". It named RealPlay in the box (not eTrends - maybe I'm having more than one conflict). It froze the computer and I couldn't close the program but I could view the "details". In that it mentioned an error in the kernell32 file.

What is this kernell32 file? I did do what you suggested and ran scanreg but it comes up "no errors found".

Just wanted to update you on the shortcut solution. As I previously mentioned I did make the shortcut. So far I'm 2 for 5 when it comes to clean shutdowns. The other three came up with the fatal exception error:
@0028!Co2A24DF in VXD VWIN32 (05) + 00002107. I will go through all the other suggestions and see if anything works.
