Because I am having so much trouble with W2K, I have setup a Win98 installation on my other disk and re-installed all my trading software there.
Now, when shutting down I am getting the following error:

DISK WRITE ERROR
UNABLE TO WRITE TO DISK IN DRIVE C.

This is incredible, my computer was working flawlessly for months. Is it possible I have some nasty virus that I cannot detect? I am about two seconds away from buying another computer.

Thanks.

hi alex,

well, perhaps you are not aware that your problem preceded you to the thread? #reply-15260237

yes, thanks to a concerned thread member, a couple of us have done at least a precursory examination of your prob <g>.

check out the replies to gottfried's post, perhaps there's something there. and now we can begin to hunt around for ideas to get you fixed up.

i did note that you were a couple seconds away from a new pc purchase..... have you held off on that?

:)

alex

regarding stop error 0x0000000A with win2k, i see

Verify that your computer has the latest Service Pack installed as a good place to start.

do you have sp1?

also, here is a mistersoftee troubleshooter for this error, perhaps you've already been through it. it looks very good....

microsoft.com

for now, though, i want to know if you have the service pack installed. this might do the trick.

:)

When all else fails, do a fresh install of the OS and do the backup thing:

------------------------------------------

MY BULLET PROOF BACK-UP SYSTEM:

1. Install a large second hard drive, just for the purpose of holding back up data from C:

2. Buy Drive Image 4

3. Create an image of C: about every one to two weeks.

4. Back up critical data regularly (daily to be safe) to the second hard drive and onto Zip or CDR/CDRW.

When you have a problem, it's only about 20-30 minutes at the most to restore an image and copy all your critical data back to C: and you are back to a fully functional computer.

------------------------------------------
I back up data and image FAITHFULLY. My computer systems are bullet proof.

Drive Image will save you much grief, believe me. I have done the format and reinstall thing about 100 times on my various computers over the years.

I know it doesn't answer your question, but now may be a good time to get a backup / restore system in place.

PS
I know MS ME has a restore system, but I don't think it will compete with Drive Image 4:

Good luck!
