Taking the regulatory process out of the FDA's hands would not necessarily allow Lilly to make it's decisions. Any of the many people involved in the creation of the drugs could manipulate the results. What the FDA does currently is create a venue that stops any one individual from making false accusations. The process isn't perfect, but it's better than allowing businessmen to make scientific or medical decisions......if you think that the FDA isn't needed then take a look at the health insurance business which has reduced health care down to a profit margin.
