Thanks, I ran the memory test from the link that Jon Tara gave me yesterday. It ran for 16 hours and still hadn't finished this morning by the time I had to reboot my system so I could trade. It passed 8 tests with no errors. I have got to get back to work now, thanks for your help and I will review all this material when I get home.

MM,

Thanks for this link, it really helped. I was able to fix (I think) the problems I was having with Win98. It turned out to be a problem with the Power configuration dll file that was loaded on startup. I disabled this file and the computer shutdown fine. Then I went into my BIOS and activated the HDD Power Down, the Doze Mode, and the Suspend Mode which I had as disabled. Then I reactivated the Power configuration file and my computer shutdown fine. I restarted and shut down successfully 4 times after that so I am hoping this solves the problem. Thank you very much.
I have a couple questions:

1. Is there anything comparable to MSConfig in Win2K? I have looked through the Computer Management section many times and can't find it.

2.Is there any literature that explains how the Windows power management and how BIOS power management interrelate? It is confusing as hell to me, I wish I could just adjust the settings in one place, either the BIOS or the operating system.

Also, I am still trying to figure out my Win 2K problem however. Just for kicks here is what my event log says happened in the four times I rebooted after a crash.

I am not sure what those other error numbers mean, I guess I will look for them on the W2K website.

Alex
