Thanks, roserrsp. Well, I guess there is a silver lining, though. Looks like they were considered temporary contract workers to handle heightened demand, and not permanent employees, therefore not a down-sizing of the 10,000 positions already in Ottawa. Also, about half were temporarily laid off. Small consolation for them, I'm sure.

Too bad the company didn't say that the layoffs were due to increased automation and manufacturing productivity.
