David, the Symbian alliance is really breaking down. Ericy is getting out of the handheld business so it doesn't make sense for ericy to continuousely backing an OS that's not getting any market share. As to Motorola, its businesses are in such bad shape that it cannot afford the luxury of trying to back a multiple of OSes. Instead, it's going to back what it thinks will be a long term winner and cut the losses on the other side. The Symbian alliance was borned to fail anyway. Can anybody imagine Mot, nok and ericy all end up using the same OS and trying to compete with each others ? It was purely formed as an anti-microsoft alliance. Right now they are just transferring their support to Palm - don't forget Mot and Nok both are investors in Palm IPO stocks.
