DJ,

Sorry for asking a potentially stupid question...

Are the UMC shares traded on the Taiwan stock
exchange in any way coupled to shares sold on NYSE?

$59.50 NTD doesn't equal $11.82 USD?

Must ALSC's UMC shares be converted in order to be sold in the US markets?

Aus

Compromise may entail (a) accepting the Legislature's resolution to construct the Plant; (b) adoption of a new state energy law; (c) decommissioning earlier than planned Taiwan's four nuclear power plant facilities; (d) building no additional nuclear power plants; (e) achieving a "nuclear-free Taiwan."

[Dow Jones] Taiwan's key stock index ends down 1.9% at 5932 as Nasdaq's losses and net foreign selling Friday damp sentiment. However, advances outnumber declines 2 to 1, as investors buy recent market laggards in construction, textile, food and cement. Despite index's losses today, analysts still optimistic, after U.S. and Taiwan rate cuts last week. Index likely to test 6292 this week, barring any U.S. market plunge, says Manager at investment consulting company
