I wasn't saying that was your position. I was repeating a part of your post.

>>The other way is for the government to not pay for abortions, period. That's easier to manage administratively, but it's not benign...

I am saying that is MY position.

But I do want to clarify and state I believe there are rare instances where I would make exceptions. For example, an indigent who becomes pregnant and who's life is threatened by a pregnancy. I would support tax moneys being utilized in such a case. But only once.

Government shouldn't be in the business of using tax dollars to provide abortion services. Period. As you said.

I think we should explore the rational and logical outcome of such a policy. Let's say that the poorest people and those who are most likely to have negative impacts to their life are the ones affected by such a policy. What precisely is the role of the Government then?

It seems to me this is a due diligence problem. If we know a baby is coming, what duty do we have to minimize harm to society, that individual, and it's mother?

Saying we won't fund abortion on moral grounds creates a whole new kind of (and IMO, a larger, more grievous) ethical problem - that of unwanted children to be placed by adoption. We will quickly find we outstrip demand for babies of questionable parentage that have had inadequate pre-natal and neo-natal care. Now what?

If you have squeaking brakes, it doesn't seem very intelligent to say, in effect, "we just won't use them", does it?
