My whole position has simply been that the government shouldn't be involved in the whole abortion situation. This is only one of many things that I think is inappropriate for the government to have any involvement. I believe that is is more appropriate and more efficient if handled by the private sector.

As an example, I am against the U.S. government funding AIDS research. BUT, I consider AIDS to be a great threat to health of the population. Since I place a great deal of importance on this issue and I also think that the gov shouldn't have involvement, it follows that I had damn well better be ready to donate to the cause. And I have and I do, both with funds and my time.

My position has never been "if a less advantaged person gets pregnant, then tough luck, you don't have a choice". It has always been that the less advantaged person would go to privately funded resources. And I believe that enough people find this to be an important enough issue to likely provide more funding than what is done by the U.S. Gov (for both domestic and int'l situations).

And just to clarify, I don't think that this is special for the abortion issue. I apply the same principles to a wide variety of government funded projects.
