The social fallout from interdiction is grave, too. The number of young black men who either have a felony record, are in jail, are on probation, are on parole, or have an outstanding arrest warrant for drugs really bothers me - and I am opposed to mandatory sentencing. Especially the sentences that hit crack harder than powder - we all know people who snorted cocaine in college or as young adults who have given it up and become productive citizens - the ones I know are all white. It's so hypocritical - now a lot of them are lawyers and judges and legislators, going tsk tsk and pointing the finger at crack users and sellers.

The line I liked best from Traffic was "how can we fight a war on drugs when the enemy is our own family"?
