well, they're politicians...and they're in opposition. so they rightly suspect that they can make trouble for the ruling party by delaying the inevitable. politics is a dirty business mostly...so i'm personally not surprised at these antics.

it is btw. well known that the Republicans on Capitol Hill, contrary to their rhetoric, are BIG spenders...they're certainly not paragons of fiscal prudence.

flats, I smell maximum political posturing. Republicans sense a chance to pin this whole mess on Davis and the demos, I suspect, and gain revenge at the polls in 2002. Arnold Schwartzenegger is publicly teasing at a run for governor (Jesse Ventura : move over). I still think they'll compromise and get a bailout, but who knows, bankruptcy is not out of the question yet.

If you thought it couldn't get any weirder than that, stay away from this week's story of the killer dog breeders in the state pen, whose lawyers had adopted this 30-something con and were taking care of his dog, which mauled and killed an innocent Bay Area apartment dweller this week. The lawyer writes a letter to the local DA (who is a whole 'nother story in and of himself) blaming the victim for wearing perfume that set off the dog.

All is not lost, however. At least it'll be 70 degrees and sunny here today. That one usually works when nothing else does.
