At the end of February you can buy a one year license of VirtuaHammer for either Linux or Windows NT for $4,995

Intel provided Merced development systems for free (but you had to pay your own electricity bill :) $5K may be small change for a big software company, but I can't see the OpenSource Linux community getting excited about porting to x86-64 if they have to pay $5K for the emulator.

AMD should be subsidizing the emulator to promote the porting of apps. Stop penny pinching guys.
