Tom - Doesn't the IRS value the gift on the date it changed hands from you to the charity? I didn't think gifts of stock were held for LT gain by charities. Usually they're cashed out right away -- but I could be wrong. I guess it depends on the terms of the deal. A gift of stock for a charitable annuity is cashed out right away, as are gifts of stock given to pooled funds.
